3 Awesome Lip Treatments to Get Ready for Valentine’s Day

One of the most prominent features of your face is your mouth. Your lips may be the secret to looking younger, adding an air of mystery to your presence, or simply giving you the look you want.

As you consider the perfect pout, how do you feel about your lips? Are they as full as you’d like? Do you have vertical lines?

At Lasting Impression Medical Aesthetics, Dr Galope uses three methods to help sculpt your lips and achieve exactly the look you want: lip fillers, Botox®, and PDO threads. Here are the basics of each of these methods.

Lip fillers

Fillers can both smooth lines and plump your lips in a minimally invasive, quick, and simple procedure. There are various brands of fillers, and Dr Galope recommends one based on your specific needs and goals.

Most fillers contain hyaluronic acid, which is a substance that your body creates naturally. It can change the shape, volume, and structure of your lips. Because hyaluronic acid occurs naturally, it’s extremely rare for allergic reactions to occur

There are several benefits to using lip fillers. If, for example, you’re looking for a big change in how your lips look, the treatments can be spread out over a few visits, so that the change is gradual.

The procedure is generally quick, and you likely won’t need any downtime to recover. Our staff marks the area where the injection goes and you may be given a local anesthetic, then very fine needles are used to make the injections.

Afterwards, you may need ice for a few minutes to prevent any swelling or discomfort. You should avoid lipstick or other products for a few hours.

Most fillers last a minimum of six months.

Botox

You may associate Botox with correcting wrinkles on your forehead or around your eyes, but it can also improve the appearance of your lips.

Botulinum toxin type A, better known as Botox, is one of the oldest and most well-understood cosmetic treatments on the market. There are different ways that Botox can be used to change the appearance of your lips.

A relatively new trend is called the Botox lip flip. This procedure relaxes the muscles around your top lip, which allows it to curl outward and look larger.

Botox can also improve the appearance of creases around your lips, raise the corners of your mouth, and correct marionette lines from your lips to your nose.

Like fillers, Botox injections are minimally invasive and quick, and they don’t require recovery time. Whether Botox is the best way to achieve the look you want depends on numerous factors, the most important of which is your ultimate goal.

PDO threads

Sometimes referred to as a thread lift, PDO (polydioxanone) threads are a new, nonsurgical method of firming and tightening your skin. In addition to providing lift, PDO threads stimulate your body to produce more collagen, providing a youthful fullness.

The best part about a PDO thread lift is that it’s minimally invasive — it’s not surgical, so you don’t need days or weeks to recover. It may take a few weeks to see the full result because your body needs time to produce collagen.
