We all recognize the signs of aging, such as drooping skin, wrinkles, and discolorations. However, how time impacts each of us varies. Aging is a dispersed force. Why then do some people appear younger than they actually are and others older? As it turns out, there are caused by many factors that influence how we age, some of which are under our control and others which are not.

Premature aging can be brought on by a variety of reasons, including genetics, environment, and lifestyle choices. The most frequent cause, however, can also be the most avoidable: photoaging. Fortunately, there are a lot of cosmetic fixes for typical flaws. Other types of light can reverse the damage that one type of light has caused.

And what exactly is photoaging? How does it harm the skin, and what kind of skin damage does it cause?

Symptoms & Solutions from The Lasting Impression Guide to Photoaging

The warning signs and symptoms of premature aging are well-known to us at Lasting Impression in Bergen County, New Jersey. In order to provide our patients with comprehensive, skin rejuvenation independence, we have expanded our treatment options over the years.

In our years of providing aesthetic services, we have discovered the following concerning photoaging.

Describe photoaging.

Nature has created human skin to absorb light and respond to it. The effects of different wavelengths vary. A certain amount of sunlight is required for the synthesis of vitamin D, a critical component for maintaining bone health and reducing inflammation. But having too much of a good thing might have negative effects.

UV (ultraviolet) light can harm skin cells and result in catastrophic conditions like cancer or aesthetic issues like rapid aging. Consider this well-known image of a longtime truck driver. The left side of his face has aged substantially more than the right after years of driving on the left side of the cab, near the truck window.

What signs of photoaging are there?

As you may recall from your middle school science courses, heat is the result of energy, and light is energy. UV light damages your skin thoroughly and fast when it receives power from the sun. As a result, the symptoms are varied:

  • Blemishes (hyperpigmentation, freckles, liver spots, age spots)
  • Deep fine lines & wrinkles
  • Sagging skin
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Mottled complexions
  • Melasma
  • Redness

Methods of Photoaging Treatment

In our quest to provide our patients with flawless skin, we stop at nothing at Lasting Impression in Bergen County, New Jersey. We may suggest a treatment or suggest combining therapies for the best results in order to properly treat your photoaging symptoms. Here are just a few of our most popular photoaging remedies.

Pico Laser for Brown and Dark Spots

UV light is strong, but so are focused picosecond (one trillionth of a second) laser bursts of energy. Because darker hues absorb light and heat more quickly than lighter ones, pico laser treatments are effective. This distinction enables you to target and permanently eliminate your flaws.

Hyperpigmented areas (age spots, liver spots, undesirable freckles) are the focus of the pico laser. Before the discoloration is eliminated from the body by entirely natural processes, these flaws collect light and heat to such a degree that the discoloration scatters permanently.

Pico laser treatments for hyperpigmentation are a key tool in the battle against photoaging since they have no downtime and deliver long-lasting benefits.

Rejuvenation of the Face

There are several non-surgical facelift alternatives available now because of advancements in cosmetic technology. In a single session, facial rejuvenation, as the field is known, can treat several photoaging signs for a refreshed, long-lasting appearance.

At Lasting Impression, we have developed novel methods for facial rejuvenation by combining fractional laser lifts, dermal fillers, microneedling, and pico laser treatments. With these new alternatives, jowls, double chins, hyperpigmentation, uneven texture, and sagging skin can all be treated together. The best part is that they target the smallest fine lines and the deepest deep wrinkles.

Microneedling

When you were younger, bruising and cuts healed quickly. Collagen, a structural protein that occurs naturally and contributes to skin tightness, tone, and general health, was abundantly created by our bodies when we were youngsters and even as young adults. However, as we become older, our systems start to redirect resources, and collagen production slows down. Naturally, noticeable wounds take longer to heal than minor cases of photoaging and UV damage.

Microneedling manipulates the healing mechanisms of your skin to tighten sagging skin, smooth wrinkles, and improve complexion. Extremely small channels (microchannels) are made in the skin by a pen with a needle-lined tip. These microscopic punctures are perceived by your skin as “damage,” and it rushes collagen to the region to heal it. However, because the microchannels are so narrow and collagen synthesis is increased, other types of skin damage that are present nearby are also addressed, correcting years’ worth of acne scars, pimples, sagging, redness, and uneven textures.

Microneedling with RF

In order to provide dramatic effects, RF microneedling combines the collagen induction methods of its namesake with strong radiofrequency (RF) energy. The lowest layers of skin are penetrated with RF energy during the microneedling treatment. Here, that energy is converted to heat and is absorbed, warming the hypodermis (the lowest layer of skin) and promoting the synthesis of more collagen.

In a brief and comfortable procedure, RF microneedling enables virtually entire face rejuvenation by boosting collagen formation, thereby reversing almost all signs of photoaging. Best of all, outcomes sometimes endure for years.

Microneedling in conjunction with PRP

Despite how unsettling the idea may be, your blood can actually heal you. Recent research has shown a connection between blood injections and rejuvenation. Fortunately, we can increase the healing elements in your bloodstream to promote cellular regeneration wherever it is needed.

Numerous bioactive peptides, complex compounds that help with inflammation, healing, and even immunity, are present in platelet-rich plasma (PRP). We begin by spinning a sample of your blood in a centrifuge. This distinguishes PRP from normal blood. We then compress this PRP to create a healing serum. Finally, we use microneedling to inject this serum into your facial tissues, doubling the effectiveness of the end outcome.

Although the results of these alleged “Vampire Facials” sound sinister, they are anything but!
